Fireworks of Ryukyu
“Karakuri fireworks” were not the only type of fireworks used in the Ryukyu Kingdom. There were also hand-held fireworks that shoot sparks called “tebana” and rockets called “higou.” There were two types of “higou”: “higou of daytime” and “higou of night-time.”
The names of each firework are written in Hibanahou Nikki, but the details of the fireworks are not described. It is written in Hibanahou Nikki that fireworks of the Ryukyu Kingdom were learned from China.
